Da Veedub

Hi all its the ginger one again (finally) sorry for the long wait but life kinda got in the way as usual. I've finally got Da Veedub finished with gunna and driva.
Now of all the cool model kits out there to convert into a mad max style half trakk for a mob of orks, why did I choose a Volkswagen camper? Well the answer is simple really :- THAT'S WHAT I LIKE !
I was reading an article on line were a guy had built himself a trukk for his gorka mob based on his dream car (which he actually owned), a 1969 camero. It was awesome, he had boyz in the boot and the back seats with guns and gubbinz everywhere. So I thought to myself why not do it with a splitty camper (my dream car that I unfortunately don't own :-(

I started to tell Carl about my idea and the next thing I know he turns up at my house with a revell kit of a camper and tells me its an early birthday present as its my cough 30th cough this year.
So have a gander at da veedub and let me know what you think. Shouldn't be long till the painted finished result is on so stay tuned.
So till next time.........Oorah

sorry for the picture quality as i've been using my phone

Hi all this is my first Blog so as James said please be gentle...

Ok so Ginger kid (James) keeps asking, nay PESTERING, me to post on his blog and has asked me to start by talking about my current project. We are all avid gamers who play many different systems (mostly all of the Workshop Stuff) and at present we are starting up some GorkaMorka. As I am already an Ork player with a small little Waaagh!!! of my own (6,000pts including my three Stompas and Skullhamma) it was a chance for me to essentially convert my own little Trukk Boyz squad...

So to start with this is my first post - 'Da Boyz Ride'

You may wonder why I have decided to start with my vehicle instead of my theme etc but to be honest the short answer is that I really struggled to decide on my final idea and as such have bought many parts and haven't finalised what is and isn't being used as of yet. Although it will however become apparent very quickly the theme I am leaning towards that will be a tale for another time.

So to begin on my ride. After a good read through 'Da Rulez' I decided that for a loss of 1"per thruster use but the ability to traverse difficult terrain without penalty and a saving of 25% (5 Teef) I would be using a bunch of Trakk's. Not wanting to stick with the conventional Workshop kit, which also ruled out the Forge World uprade kits this left me wanting to use the Forge World Big Trakk however in the intrest of making a cheaper option I travelled to my local ModelZone in search of a nice and appropriate scale half track model.

This is what I found....

So then began the WIP Trakk. I wanted to give the Trakk a recycled yet 'Improved' Ork feel to it so I decided to build the kit complete without the skeletons of course.

What a great kit I was worried that 1/24 may have been a little too big but I think its perfect, afterall bigger is better as far as 'Da Ladz is cuncerned'. So the Spannerz started by adding some, ok lots, of armour plates all over the chasis (cardboard super glued in to place) then they added a few mesh strips and some plastic glyphs from the Trukk kit. To finish off I used thick card to box of the wheel arches and hey presto.....

However it just still wasn't thrilling me, it was still too clean and shiny and new. So back to the workshop it was. I trebled the number of armour plates and added more mesh. Also as I have three Stompas already I had plenty of spare extra glyphs and a belly plate which I decided would become my new bonnet. As I loved the Iron Cross head lights I decided to use one as an eye patch for the skull bonnet. The last few additions were yet more glyphs and a few point bits...

Then finally one last view from another angle....

So far she is dubbed - 'Da Iron Rod'

More pictures to follow with colour and crew...

But seriously though i was exchanging some emails with Brent over at strictly average ( http://strictlyaverage.blogspot.com/ )and he show cased mine and my buddies minis in an article on bell of lost souls( http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2011/05/showcasing-average-game-club.html ) and we got some good feedback and it made feel all warm and fuzzy inside and besides, who can truly say they dont like people saying that theyre models look cool eh?

Erm well thats the intro thingy done now what. Oh yeah what am i gonna be rambling about on the old blogosphere. Well good old Warhammer 40k thats what. Ive only really been into the hobby for roughly 3 years now and ive got a dark angels army which i call the "Archangels of Redemption" basically i put some skull white onto the Dark Angel livery and hey presto, i have my own 2nd founding chapter that i can use for codex: Dark Angels or codex: Space Marines.

Ill be putting pics on here of my models & painting (when it gets done that is) but dont get too exited as ive only ever painted 3 (yes 3) models. I mean theyre not bad but theyre not great either but hey, i like em so shut it you whore, er i mean please dont make fun.........please.

Also my buddies and i are currently building our buggies/trukks/half-tracks for a GORKA-MORKA campaign that were hopefully starting really soon so stay tuned for work in progress pics and finished results. Just so you can get excited (or not) im gonna be converting a VW split-screen camper into (hopefully) a half-trakk and my buddy carl is converting 2 rommel's rod kits into orky half trakks. see pics below.
